North River Falls – A True Adventure

North River Falls

Hiking to Nova Scotia’s highest waterfalls, North River, at 105 feet was the highlight for many hikers on Day 8 (Sept. 16,) of the 2016 Hike the Highlands Festival. The 18 km return trail in a wilderness area, provides a true adventure especially past the middle section with ups and downs sections, a few scrambles, and crossing streams by rocks.

Other hikes today include Branch Pond look-off , Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where you are on top of plateau and Ski Cape Smokey, Ingonish Ferry, where hikers got to see some incredible views on top of the ski hill.

In the evening, hikers were treated to a presentation of proposed Seawall trail project where hikers in the future will experience an amazing coastal experience from Meat Cove to Polletts Cove. This 3-5 day experience will involve camping in tents and or  huts.
