Hike the Highlands Festival started off its 15th Anniversary by hosting an Outdoor & Nature Photography Workshop with Wally Hayes, a professional photographer, Sept. 13-14, 2018. Wally has been a good friend of the festival since it started in 2003 and continues to be one of our biggest supporters. He brought his son, Stephen and his grandson, Cole.
Thursday Night, Sept. 13, was a meet and greet night with an overview of the workshop and its schedule. Participants were asked to bring their camera so Wally could get a feel for what type of photographer they were. Cole, Wally’s grandson, made quite an entrance with his camera and massive zoom lens – Nikon 200-500 mm.
Friday, Sept. 14 was the field day with the camera(s) and began with a sunrise shoot at Green Cove. Then off to North Ingonish for photos of fishing boats at the wharf and lobsters. We were then treated for a boat ride around Ingonish Island by Stanley & Jenny Symes where photos were taken of houses, coves, rocks, waves and sunfish (see above). The afternoon was spent at Black Brook area and Jack Pine Trail. Thanks to Wally Hayes & all the participants for being part of our 15th Anniversary and opening our festival with a successful workshop.
