Hiking during COVID-19

Moose on Blueberry Mountain

Hikers must adapt to changing conditions during COVID-19. In Canada, hikers must social distance two metres (6 feet a part). If a hiker passes by you on a trail, you are required to be six feet apart as well. That means stepping off the trail. Social distancing/physical distancing will be with us for awhile and until the vaccine is developed, tested & approved. This can be 12-18 months.

In various provinces, public health restrictions are constantly changing. Check your local province for up-to-date information. In Nova Scotia go to this website.  Also check provincial and national park websites for their latest updates as more trails are starting to reopen. Watch for Wildlife as they have enjoyed an increase bit of freedom and may not be used to humans again.

Hike with family and friends to be safe during COVID-19 times.  Hike during the morning with cooler temps and less cars in the parking lots. Remember to bring water, snacks and a compact camera to take photos. Enjoy your time outdoors in nature.
