2015 – A New Year of Challenges
I have registered for my first challenge of the new year – 1000 km hiker distance award with Hike Nova Scotia. In this challenge you must walk, snowshoe or hike 1000 km in Nova Scotia. In past years, I have came close, but close doesn’t count. Fingers crossed for 2015. I am off to a good start. I need 20 kms a week…doesn’t sound too hard but it can be.
My 2nd one – the Highlands Challenge – Hike all 26 trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park plus the new trail Mica Hill. I have done this one before but it keeps me in shape, and focused for the bigger goal – 1000 kms.
The 3rd challenge – Cape Breton Highlands 3 Peaks Challenge, July 18, 2015. Hike 3 mountains in one day – 20 plus km. It can involve hiking in rain, or hot sunny conditions as well three of the toughest mountains in the highlands of Cape Breton. The mountains are expected to be announced by end of January or early. The key to this challenge is getting lots of hikes in before July.
The final challenge is hiking 100 plus kms at the 12th annual Hike the Highlands Festival in September during the ten day festival – Sept. 11-20, 2015. Plans to be a busy year.
