The leaves are coming out on the trees, dandelions are everywhere, the grass is getting ready for the first mow or second and the black flies are back. You guessed it – spring has arrived here in the Highlands.  Time to get out the hiking gear and see what is good and what is needed. Backpacker magazine just came out with their new Gear Guide issue. My favorite time of the year seeing all the new products.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park has a new campground for 2022 – It is called the Mkwesaqtuk/Cap-Rouge Campground is located in Trout Brook area on the Cheticamp side of the park.  It features 47 sites as well five o’Tentik sites (one accessible), 42 unserviced sites with fireplace ( 4 accessible sites).  The campground will be open July 1, 2022 – October 23, 2022.
