Cape Smokey Trail – Great Coastal Scenery

With eight look-offs, Cape Smokey hiking trail provides the visitor with some amazing coastal scenery of the North Shore, Atlantic Ocean, and Ingonish area. This 11 km in and out trail located in a provincial park along the Cabot Trail, takes approximately 3 -4 hours to complete depending on your photo and snacks stops.  Take lots of water with you and a lunch.

Cape Smokey hiking trail is a demanding trail that can hard on your feet because of the rocks and tree roots on the surface. Highly recommend to hike this trail with poles for balance crossing rocky, wet and muddy areas. There is one long hill at the end coming back to the parking lot. The views are well worth the hike on this trail.

This trail is part of the 9th Annual Hike the Highlands Festival as well the 2012 Cape Breton Highlands 3 Peaks Challenge event ( hike 3 mountains in one day) to be held on July 21st with 20 plus teams participating.  This trail has amazing view at the end of the hike on the way in of  Ingonish – South & North Bay, Middle Head and Ingonish Island.
