Day 7 – Pollett’s Cove and Fishing Cove
It is the day of the long hikes – Pollett’s Cove and Fishing Cove but with great weather and scenery for hikers to enjoy. Pollett’s Cove hike is well known for its spectacular seacoast scenery. Michael Haynes, author of several hiking books, rates this trail as his most favorite in Nova Scotia. The Pollett’s Cove hike was led by Tina Roach, a local resident and experienced hiking guide.
Fishing Cove hike was led by respected naturalist and photographer Clarence Barrett. Clarence is also author of Cape Breton Highlands National Park – A Park Lover’s Companion book. 30 plus hikers enjoyed this trail, a steady descent through hardwood Acadian forest to a small cove. Five brave hikers enjoyed a refreshing swim in the ocean. Fishing Cove was once home to several Acadian families and a small lobstery cannery. Located in one of 17 forested canyons in the National Park. Extensive work has begun on this trail and should be completed before next season of hiking.
