Lets face it, most photographers would like to spend more time shooting than editing.  It was clear by their questions and interest, managing your digital library was a very important topic at the Expanding your Horizons – Landscape & Seascape Photography Workshop.  Wally Hayes, professional photographer and workshop instructor reviewed the three  popular programs that help you organize and edit your photos – Aperature, Lightroom, Photoshop elements.  As well – Adobe Photoshop was discussed.

Here are some important tips that came out of our discussions with Wally Hayes in Part 1 of the workshop,  making it easier to manage your digital library :

1)  It makes more sense and cheaper now, to store your photos on external hard drives than DVD’s.

2)  With 12, 16, 18, 24 and 36 megapixels cameras,  photos should be saved to your external hard drives from memory cards rather than on your computers

3)  Setup folders with specific titles so the photos are easier to find .ie. Hike the Highlands 2013. You can then developed sub folders under main folder ie. Day 1 or  Sunset Hike- Middle Head.

Expanding your Horizons – Landscape and Seascape Photography workshop was hosted by Hike the Highlands Festival, Sept. 12-13, 2013.
