Daypacks Worth A Good Look – Deuter Trans Alpine 30 & Gregory Z30
I wish my old Deuter Futura 28 daypack would last forever but it won’t. It needs to be replaced. The new designed Deuter Futura 28 pack (left) has a smaller front pocket, no mesh pocket inside and no side mesh pockets on the outside for water bottles ( been replaced with pockets for wet clothes). These changes on Deuter Futura 28 have forced me to look at another pack. I like my pockets, having a pack organized and finding things easy. The two daypacks that have been brought to my attention are the Deuter Trans Alpine 30 (right)
and Gregory Z30 Daypack.
So I did my research, read countless reviews, and viewed videos on daypacks. I also had my nephew visited MEC and give me his opinion on new Deuter Futura 28 and Deuter Trans Alpine 30 . He travels on our long distance hikes as well our mountain climbs and I value his opinion. My nephew really like all the pockets on Trans Alpine 30 and so do I : map pocket, outside top front pocket – organizer plus a zipper pocket, bottom compartment & outside pocket, inside pocket, mesh pockets on hip belt, mesh pockets on the outside. The question mark was different design in the back…. See below a video on Trans Alpine pack and how much gear you pack in the daypack.
I also had another hiking friend from Montreal give me his opinion on all three packs as he was in the market for a new one. He bought the new Deuter Futura 28, later took it back and purchased the Gregory Z30 (above) because of the pockets and back design much like the Deuter Futura 28.
In the end, I bought the Deuter Trans Alpine 30 for the pockets plus the bottom compartment which Gregory Z30 didn’t have.
