Spring Hiking – Be Prepared
Trail conditions are unpredictable in the spring so hikers must be prepared for everything. There can be snow on the trail, muddy and soft conditions, over flowing streams and brooks from spring meltdown, windfalls, and much more.
Hikers can be prepared by having the following equipment – hiking poles for balance, and crossing streams etc, gaiters to keep snow and water out and to protect your legs, waterproof/ gore tex hiking boots, wool socks, a toque, gloves & jacket for cold conditions, daypack with first aid kit, water, snacks, lunch, rain gear, extra layers & socks. Hike with a friend, don’t hike alone. Important to tell your family or friends that you are going hiking and what time you are expected to be back. Take your cell phone in case you need to call someone. Note: It doesn’t work in some areas.
Spring hiking can be fun, exciting and adventurous. By being prepared you can enjoy hiking earlier, the trails and the great views. Don’t forget your camera.
