Day 4 – Meat Cove
The community of Meat Cove was the centre of attention in Day 4 of Hike the Highlands Festival. 58 hikers enjoyed the three hikes today- Lowland Cove, Meat Cove Mountain and Little Grassy & the boardwalk. A little drizzle to start the day off but nothing to damper the spirits of fellow hikers. A black horse said good-bye to us on the way back from Lowland Cove. Special thanks to the folks at Meat Cove Welcome Centre, Derrick MacLellan and Phylis Hines, for allowing us to use the facility for registration, washrooms and for providing Coffee/tea to the hikers. Thanks to our guides Lisa Dixon, David Rasmussen and Linda Donovan.
Hiker Dennis Gillis gave us an entertaining and informative talk on the Camino de Santiago walk. Dennis walked 34 days on his pilgrimage and met alot of interesting people along the way. Thanks Dennis for a great presentation.
Day 5 hikes move to Cheticamp side of Cape Breton Highlands National Park with Skyline (loop) at 9:00 am. and Le vieux chemin du Cap Rouge at 9:00 am. and in the afternoon Corney Brook at 2:00 pm. In the evening, hikers can enjoyed Cape Breton fiddle music with Kinnon and Betty Lou Beaton at Doryman tonight from 8-11 pm.
