Good Opening for the Hiking Festival
The first day of the Hike the Highlands Festival went well and featured the Jack Pine Guided Hike and the opening ceremonies. There were 31 hikers enjoyed the guided hike of the Jack Pine Trail led by guides Mary MacDonald and Bethsheila Kent and sweeprs Sandra Curtis and Robert Dauphinee. The registration desk was brisk all day and opening ceremonies in Heather room was packed. Many enjoyed Thirsty Hiker Pub afterwards.
Tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 15th features the Guided Wilderness Hike at Ingonish Harbour and Broad Cove Mountain in the morning , both starting at 10:00 am. and Jigging Cove Lake in the afternoon beginning at 2:00 pm. I am heading to Ingonish Harbour for the Guided Wilderness Hike tomorrow with my nordic walking poles and looking forward to getting some great photo shots. Will post them tomorrow night.
Weather forecast tomorrow indicates 40% chance of showers in the afternoon, high of 19 degrees and rain at times heavy in the evening 20-30 mm. Hmm looks like I have a good chance to get my hike in before the rain hits. Sure hope so.
Picture feature above is Jigging Cove Lake and Mary MacDonald, one of the Hike the Highlands Festival Guides. She will be leading the hike to Jigging Cove Lake tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
