Jack Pine Trail- Cape Breton Highlands National Park

August 9, 2008 By Tom Wilson Uncategorized

After what seems to be a week of rain, I was finally able to hike yesterday on one of Cape Breton Highlands National Park most interesting trails – Jack Pine.  This short 2.3 km trail is about an hour long or more depending if you connect with coastal trail back to the parking lot at Black Brook.  This trail is unique as there are only two stands of Jack Pine in the National Park and one of the very few on Cape Breton Island. It is a self guiding trail with lots of interesting interpretative signs along the way. I enjoy the coastal trail section on the way back as you get to see the atlantic ocean, small coves and squeaker hole. As well you get to see Black Brook Beach – Ranked by Canaidan Geographic Magazine as one of canada’s top 25 beaches  and Still Brook Falls. The Jack Pine trail is one Hike the Highlands Festival Guided hikes during the first weekend of the festival on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Below are a few pics I took on my hike.
